In order to make some extra room for a possible turbo set up on the 6.2 and for the Cummins swap down the road, I opted to put a 4" body lift underneath the H1. Since the body of the H1 ends at the firewall and the hood has a seperate mounting system, I started by removing the hood and raising the front bumper. Since this H1 has the 12k winch mounted to the bumper, I needed to make sure that the bumper would be as stout as it was in the original location once it sat 4" higher.
I removed the slotted skid plate beneath the bumper, which has 3 bolts holding it to the differential skid plate and two on either side holding it to the brackets that connect to the lower A-arm bolts. I removed those brackets as well, and unbolted the winch from the front bumper. The winch is a tight fit behind the bumper, and I had to move it back and forth to remove the three bolts on either side that hold the bumper to the frame. The bumper slides off once these bolts are removed.
Once the bumper is off, there are four 3/4" bolts holding the mounting brackets to the bumper - the outermost two on either side also secure the d-rings. Once those are removed, mark 4" directly below the two uppermost mounting holes on either side. Drilling a 1/2" hole at the marks will allow reinstallation of the mounting brackets in such a way that the bumper will sit 4" higher.
At this point, the bottom of the mounting brackets hang out underneath the bumper. To correct this, mark a line parallel to the bottom of the bumper all the way down each bracket. While the brackets are still bolted on, also mark the brackets in the locations where the original lower mounting holes on the bumper sit on the bracket. Remove the brackets, and cut the brackets at the line. I did this with a plasma cutter, and cleaned it up with a 4.5" grinder. Drill the new 1/2" holes in the bracket where marked, and reinstall the brackets and d-rings to the bumper. It is now ready to be bolted back up to the frame, and the winch can be reinstalled as well.
